OVERTOn

St Helens CE Primary School

St Helen’s is located in the historic fishing village of Overton near to the mouth of the River Lune. There are many 18th century buildings in the village. Although the village is less than three miles from Heysham it feels quite remote and the school’s playground looks out over beautiful rolling hills near Lancaster.

The pupils were full of energy and threw themselves into the project and the school made the visitors attending their memory share very welcome indeed with mountains of homemade beautiful cakes.

Memory Share: The pupils of St Helen's learnt how to use recorders so that they could record the memories  of members of their local community.

One of the visitors to the memory share brought in the key which opened the door to the old Overton school.

Gallery:With project facilitator Emma Aylett the pupils learnt about taking photographs. Emma asked the pupils to take her on a tour of the village and en-route the pupils took photographs of anything interesting they saw. Back in the classroom artist Jamie Barnes helped the pupils to create prints inspired by their local buildings. A selection of the pupils’ photographs and prints were made into a calendar for the school and you can see them below.
